The family firm that has carved its...
|
... niche in Edinburgh.
A brief History.....
The joinery firm of George Hardie and Son is believed to have been founded in 1882, although it could be claimed that its earliest contribution to the building of Edinburgh dates back to more than 130 years ago, when George Hardie himself worked on the building of the General Post Office. The foundation stone for the GPO was laid in 1861, and the building was completed in 1866.
George Hardie is thought to have come from Melrose. |

Additional Information
|
He was living at 4 Little King Street in 1866, and remained in Edinburgh, going on to establish the joinery firm whose work can be seen throughout the city. Some of the many contracts carried out were to include the building of the janitors' houses at Moray House Training College in 1907, and the construction of houses in Ravelston Dykes and Greenend in 1934 in conjunction with other firms who combined to form the Edinburgh Building Company.
